Karachi Metrobus
(詳細はbus rapid transit planned for Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The Metrobus was announced by the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on behalf of the Federal Government of Pakistan. He added that PKR 15 billion would immediately be released to develop metrobus routes,〔 and the remaining amount be provided by the City District Government Karachi (CDGK).〔 It was also reported that all of the amount will be provided by the Federal Government only. The expected daily ridership would be 350,000 and the system length would be 109 km.〔 Upon completion it is expected to be the largest metro bus service in the country.
There are calls that capture the longing for a mass transit system in other parts of the country as well. Perhaps the loudest of these calls, not surprisingly, come from the largest and most urgently deserving city, Karachi.〔( Calls-for-mass-tranist-for-khi/ )〕 Ironically Karachi having five times population of Rawalpindi-Islamabad is still lacking any mass transit system.〔(Will-karachi-finally-have-a-mass-transit-system/ )〕
Due to domestic violence and slow economic growth this progress has been slow, however, in other cities of Punjab it has been launched. Since, Karachi is largest city of Pakistan in terms of population, it was in serious need of a major bus transportation system.
